Kampala

Kampala is the capital city of Uganda and is home to an estimated 1.5 million Ugandans, hundreds of thousands of people live within the cities slums. During your time in Uganda, you will have the opportunity to work with one of two charities that Nurse Uganda supports, providing either health education presentations or working with clinics, nurseries and immunisation programmes for children living in these slums. Some of these children are sponsored and are able to attend school and gain an education, but for most of the children, you could be working with the only source of education they are able to attend. Health promotion is vital in Uganda and prevention is much more successful than providing a cure. You will be able to bring your knowledge and skills and make a considerable difference to the lives of children you will meet. Accommodation in Kampala is within guest houses that are close to or linked to the charities you will be working with. All your meals are provided at the guest houses and you will be staying in groups together with other students you know from University.
